Fishing

The coarse fishery at Blackland Lakes is comprised of two Lakes; the larger Heron Lake is approximately 1 acre with depths ranging from 4 to 12 feet. The second is Stan’s Lake which is approximately half an acre with depths from 4 to 9 feet. The later one was named after Stan Haines who constructed them in 1983 with his massive dragline excavator. The chalky water has proved to be an ideal habitat for the fish.

Both Lakes are well stocked. Heron lake contains Mirror Carp up to 20 lbs. Both lakes contain Tench to 4lb, Roach to 3.5lb Perch to 3.5lb, Bream to 11lb, Crucian Carp to 3lb, Rudd and Gudgeon. As part of our ongoing investment and improvement plan at Blackland Lakes, we have recently made the following improvements to our lakes:

  • Sample netting, to check stock amounts and their condition
  • Removal of snags
  • Added Siltex, benefits of Siltex include; reduces silt on the lake bed, increases oxygen levels, improves water quality, reduces methane, provides calcium for plants and wildlife
  • Increased water level, we have made improvements which will allow us to have better control of water levels
  • Re-stocking, we have introduced over 150lb of Carp originating from Tony Campbell’s Carp4Restocking strain
  • CCTV, we have installed motion cameras so that we can monitor lakes 24/7

Day fishing is permitted from 8am – 8pm. Once booked its your peg for the day and you can come and go as much as you like however we do not advocate leaving fishing kit unattended.

There is adequate room around both lakes for bivvies on nearly all swims.
Fishing costs for campers and visitors can be found under the prices section.

Fishing Matches:

Enquires are invited for private fishing matches which can be held on either lake.
